Preserving Our History

Our Story

What began long ago as simple, unsophisticated footraces have evolved into season-long competitions in some areas of the country between numerous rival racing teams, with several different classes of competition, along with officiating and modern equipment.

LADDER

The Ladder Race consists of a five member team competing to hook up to a hydrant and nozzle to an inch and a half hose; run the 100 foot course with ladder and hose; climb the ladder on an arch and flow water through the nozzle knocking down a target in the quickest time.

WYE

The Wye Race consists of a five member team competing to hook up to a hydrant; break 150 feet of 2 ½ inch hose into a wye; run the 100 foot course; and flow water through the two nozzles knocking down two targets in the quickest time.

STRAIGHT LAY

The Straight Lay consists of a five member team competing to hook up to a hydrant; connect three lengths of 2 ½ inch hose and nozzle; run the 150 foot course; and flow water through a nozzle knocking down the target in the quickest time.
